zumindest überzeugen, wenn auch keiner (außer natürlich Christopher Walken)
besonders hervorsticht. Auch hier hatte Teil 2 (nach Teil 1 selbstverständlich) die Nase
vorn.
Übrigens hat er ziemlichen Zoff mit seinen Haaren-dauernd bläst sie der Wind in sein Gesicht -besonders beim Autofahren..

..am Ende dessen er wieder den Status eines Engels erreicht und Magdalena zum Leben erweckt, die nach einem Autounfall mit Zophael schon im Sterben lag. Danayel hatte inzwischen Pyriel erledigt, und Gabriel kann sich getrost verabschieden.
Dekker`s Review (Achtung
Spoiler) Erzengel Gabriel (Christopher Walken gewohnt überzeugend

David Williams' score for the cult classic,
THE PROPHECY I and II are finally available on CD. For those who may not be
aware, THE PROPHECY (also available from Perseverance Records) has a cult
following that has spawned four successful sequels. This series has featured
some of the best known and acclaimed actors in the business: Christopher
Walken, Eric Stoltz, Jennifer Beals, Brittany Murphy, Eric Roberts, Virginia
Madsen, Viggo Mortensen, Amanda Plummer, Vincent Spano, Brad Dourif, and
Tony Todd.
Kurze Inhaltsangabe: altes Manuskript-Das
Lexikon-kündigt den Anti-Christ an. Gerät in die Hände einer Frau, die von
Engeln verfolgt wird, um zum Inhalt des Buches zu gelangen. Prophecy V soll
dann eine Fortsetzung des Teils IV werden. Die Dreharbeiten zum 4. Teil
begannen im März 2003 in Rumänien, Regisseur ist Joel Soisson, der Produzent
der Original-Walken-Prophecy-Trilogy.
Despite this being part one of two, UPRISING does achieve closure in a satisfying way. Allison and Dani’s destinies come to a crossroads, Dani achieves redemption and the movie sets up the story arc for Allison’s character in FORSAKEN. The tone in these two sequels is much darker than in the previous PROPHECYs, assisted by the effective use of Romanian locals and surroundings; Soisson scouted the most depressed regions of Bucharest to use for locations. The best moments in the movie are a jump scare with a homeless man with severed fingers (a real local whom makeup FX man Gary Tunnicliffe says on the disc’s commentary had a strange smell) and when Satan expresses to Allison his love for Twinkies. She replies, “It must be the angel food cake.” On UPRISING’s commentary, Soisson, Wuhrer, Rylance, Tunnicliffe and production executive Nick Phillips fondly reminisce about the shoot and the Romanian culture. Soisson notes how the simultaneous shoots created confusion among cast members as to which movie they were working on each day; Wuhrer chimes in by saying that it was very difficult at times for her, since she was also doing pickup shots for DEADER. A making of featurette is also included, elaborating on the themes explored in the commentary: A few sudden snowstorms impacted shooting to the point that the team was forced to include them in the movie, and cold became the theme to signify the presence of Satan. The DVD is rounded out by cast auditions with Light, Pertwee and Bradley, an extended ending, a deleted “Twinkie” scene and a slideshow mixed with video. FORSAKEN revisits familiar territory. Angel soldiers, a.k.a. Thrones, are back in the guise of normal men, so you never quite know who is out to get Allison. This sequel introduces Jason Scott Lee (another Dimension veteran) as hitman Dylan, and gets back to the rebellious-angel storyline. Todd’s seraphim Stark (guess they ran out of angelic names to use) wants to destroy the Antichrist and end the holy war before it ever begins. The new bible foretells that the survivors of the apocalypse will have renewed faith stronger than before, and God will love them more than the angels. Stark can’t let that happen, and pure jealousy drives him to manipulate Dylan into assassinating Allison. When Dylan has a change of heart and commits suicide, Stark resurrects him in true PROPHECY style to continue his quest to retrieve the Lexicon. Satan is back on the sidelines watching and manipulating; the movie opens with a great scene in which he talks to a little girl who ends up being hit by a car. She returns later, of course, in a typical scary-little-ghost-girl scene that actually works better than similar sequences in many recent movies. Perhaps it’s Tunnicliffe’s makeup that does the trick. At times, the exposition in FORSAKEN is a bit much. UPRISING succeeded without cramming it down our throats, but Lee, who is often the tool for such exposition, just isn’t convincing as a tormented soul. At times, his overacting brings you out of the movie. Todd, however, is effectively larger than life, with that voice that sucks you in. He’s a nice change of pace for the series; he’s not your typical cardboard cutout villain, yet he’s distinct from Walken too, and his onscreen presence adds for a nice dynamic. Satan says that the politics of heaven and hell are not so different, and Todd’s performance casts a nice shade of gray on the fine line between good and evil and parallels Bradley’s performance in UPRISING quite nicely. In fact, in both films, it’s hard to decide whom to side with. Mainly, you find yourself rooting for the devil; Light’s subtle performance is a long way from Viggo Mortensen’s sinister turn as Lucifer in the first PROPHECY, but he does make the role his own.
Toward the end of
FORSAKEN’s second act, it becomes obvious that something is amiss. Why was
Allison chosen to protect the Lexicon? All is revealed in the rooftop climax
that, if you paid close attention to UPRISING’s ending, is somewhat spoiled.
The ending brings the series full circle, yet sets things up for further
adventures, as the name of the Antichrist is revealed. Where can they go
from here? An OMEN-like installment? It’s nice that FORSAKEN doesn’t follow
the same formula as UPRISING, though the overall story is weaker, while
still entertaining, it isn’t as complex as UPRISING and is a fairly linear
chase movie. Its running time clocks in at only 75 minutes, vs. UPRISING’s
88.

"In the Prophecy, I have this scene with kids. It’s great. I’m sitting on the steps of this school. I go over to this school like some terrible person - and I’m an angel. And I’m looking for this guy, and I ask these kids if they’ve seen him. It ends up with me sitting in the middle of this huge crowd of kids - there’s this little girl on my knee, and I’m feeding candy to another kid. And it’s a marvelous [erstaunliche] scene. They shot it very fast. Everything’s very spontaneous with kids. But what I did was, when we went to shoot it, I walked up, and I’m all in black and I’m coming up like Frankenstein, and I said to the director (lowers voice), “Don’t tell them I’m playing a villain [Bösewicht]- just tell them it’s Chris.” So he took me over to meet them and they’re, like, playing among themselves, and he said, “This is Chris,” and we all started to joke, and they didn’t know I was a bad guy. If they’d been told by their mother or something, “Oh, here comes the boogie man,” it would have been totally different. They didn’t know anything. They treated me like I was...their daddy. "There were some [alberne] things which I felt were interesting that were cut out of the Prophecy for reasons of whatever, shots didn't look right, or they wanted to speed the movie up. I think [the studio people] were afraid we were too kinda [kind of?Art von] wacky [verrückt]. 'It's the devil, man. You can't do stuff [Stoff/Material] like that.' I go, 'What are you talking about? I can do anything I fuckin' want.' You know, just odd [sonderbare] things that at the time people were laughing at. I mean, Chris Walken was pretty fuckin' [ziemlich ***] out there and very funny. [He's] another guy who it doesn't matter what movie he is in, he is always doing something really interesting. You put him in any situation and something interesting will happen, just by him being there...For me, it was certainly memorable to have a scene with Chris. Walken is one of the funniest people I've ever met in my life. We laughed a lot; I laughed so hard at times that I just couldn't function. in dem er eine rüde Rede über Gottes Desinteresse hält,von einem
Fanatiker erschossen. Leider war dieser blind und nicht in
der Lage, dem Opfer das Herz zu entreißen, um ihn vollständig außer
Gefecht zu setzen. Aufgrund des fehlenden Erfolges nimmt sich der
Blinde anschließend das Leben.

Danayel her, um ihm das Herz herauszureißen.
Er will, dass der mächtige Engel Pyriel, ein Feind der Menschen, siegt
und die Menschheit vernichtet, bzw., dass sich die Menschheit in
Kriegen selbst auslöscht. Unter Anleitung des
gefallenen Erzengels Gabriel, der nun auf Seiten der Erdenbewohner
steht, macht sich nun Danayel auf den Weg, um Pyriel an der Vernichtung der Menschheit zu
hindern..
Theoretisch müssten zwischen dem Ende von Teil 2 und dem Anfang von
Teil 3 schätzungsweise fünfzehn bis zwanzig Jahre liegen, was im Film
aber geflissentlich übergangen wird. Da Danyael hier aber scheinbar um
die 20 Jahre alt ist und Gabriel auch des Öfteren erwähnt – sie kennen
sich schon eine ganze Weile –, müsste diese Zeitspanne ungefähr
stimmen. Eine schnellere Alterung Danyaels (er wurde ja auch in
Rekordzeit geboren) wäre zwar möglich, doch dann hätte er ja schon vor
seinem Tod wissen müssen, dass er nicht ganz normal ist.

Aus dem Weg-Affe!
Obwohl längst nicht perfekt, bietet GOD'S ARMY 3 solide, stimmungsvolle
und intelligente Unterhaltung. Im Gegensatz zu den ersten beiden Teilen eher
actionlos und
ruhig, dafür umso
mehr kryptisch und komplexer. Leider nicht so stimmungsvoll und düster wie
Teil 2 und natürlich nicht so originell wie Teil 1.
Wer
beim Inhalt nicht recht mitkommt, sei getröstet:auch dieser Teil gibt keine
plausible Erklärung, was sich da abspielt- rätselhafte dunkle Gestalten,
abgestürzte Engel, Menschenleiber, die sich stapeln, Pyriel, der Engel des
Genozids, mit perfekter Maniküre, käsig wie Gabriel. (Dem gegenüber hat
Zophael geradezu eine gesunde Farbe....)
jüngeren Jahren- kann man
diesen Teil getrost als gelungen betrachten (ich weiß, ich sehe es mit den
Augen
eines AngelG..)
weise, großartig dargestellt von Chris Walken. Aber man weiß nicht so recht,
was er eigentlich will, ist er nun zufrieden mit seiner runtergekommenen
Existenz als Erdaffe oder möchte er wieder zum Engel werden?
Aber in der Szene am Ende des dritten Teiles vermittelt ihm eine leuchtende
Aura wieder den Status eines Erzengels...
Ein
paar nette Anspielungen sind im dritten Teil noch zu finden: So taucht etwa
Mary wieder auf (die mit der bösen Seele, inzwischen merklich gewachsen).
Oder als Gabriel an der Raststätte hält, die er einst mit Rachel aufgesucht
hat, und ihn wieder Madge bedient..dazu muss man allerdings die ersten 2
Teile gesehen haben, um die Szenen zu verstehen.
"Jedenfalls weiß er verdammt gut", welchen Eindruck er auf die Zuseher
macht.
